Overview: Responsible for maintaining and controlling the accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the Company. Responsible for preparation of financial statements or other financial reports that confirm to reporting and procedural standards. Oversees budgeting, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, fixed asset management, etc. Works with other positions and/or departments as needed to ensure Company goals are achieved.
Duties: Assist Owners/President to ensure that policies are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends. Responsible for the effective preparation, maintenance, and reporting of internal and external financial records and analyses. Preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and reports. Completes financial analyses of company cash flow, investment strategies, banking relationships, debt management etc. Provides leadership to staff accountants.
Objectives: Ensures timelines for financial information preparation are met and in compliance with legal, regulatory and Company procedures.
Environment: Typical office environment.
Physical Demands: High mental stress due to the nature and weight of controller’s responsibilities.
Hours: Salaried position, 45-50 or more hours as needed to meet obligations and deadlines.
Travel: Travel to Saginaw, MI and California for meetings as needed.
Training: Occasional to stay updated on established legal and regulatory standards
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Experience: Minimum of 5 - 10 years of high level accounting experience. Excellent logic, reasoning and problem solving skills. Understanding of related auditing functions. General knowledge in risk management, IT and HR.
Skills: Excellent leadership and human relations abilities. Strong oral and written abilities, solid analytical and technical skills.
Personal Qualities: Dependable and reliable with a high attention to detail. Task and timeline orientated with personal initiative to meet deadlines. Well-developed human relations skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, and ability to handle sensitive information in an appropriate manner.
Preferences: CPA and/or CMA
