We are seeking in our Overland Park, KS or Maple Grove, MN or San Francisco, CA office an experienced Managed Care Underwriter who will be responsible for prioritizing and completing requests for proposals, analyzing and pricing new and renewal business for our Managed Care product. The position is responsible for producing a profitable book of business working through select brokers, consultants and reinsurance intermediaries.
Your responsibilities will include:
Solicit new and renewal submissions for Managed Care accounts
Review underwriting information, then develop rates and terms for Managed Care accounts based upon underwriting rules, guidelines, pricing methodologies and account specific date
Negotiate/interact with brokers, consultants and reinsurance intermediaries as necessary
Compose, prepare and generate correspondence, proposals and statistical reports as required
Provide management reports from data systems as required
Responsible for all aspects of account management and producer relationships to maximize profitability and meet service standards
Work closely with VP Managed Care, Assistant Underwriters, PULSE and Claim Examiners to meet required deadlines, business objectives, and client service standards
Review, finalize and issue Reinsurance Agreements, Policies and Amendments
Assist with maintaining and updating underwriting manuals as needed
Participate in the overall training of Assistant Underwriters
Proficiency with Excel, Word and Access. Knowledge of PowerPoint.
Ability to manage competing priorities and to operate without close supervision during high volume, high demand cycles of the business.
Superior oral and written communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
Ability to think strategically, effectively assess risk and make solid data-driven decisions.
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, is required from an accredited college/university.
5-7 years of medical/health underwriting experience.
Previous reinsurance underwriting experience is a plus.
Experience working in a matrix organization is an asset.
Experience working on virtual teams is preferred.
