This position is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the tax function for Midwest Tape and all related companies.
Manage the accurate preparation and filing of federal, state and local tax documents. Manage all tax research-related matters, identifying potential tax problems and propose solutions. Manage a variety of monthly closing and financial reporting tasks as they relate to the tax function including the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations. Accountable for the collection of tax-related information, reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, county, and local jurisdiction levels in a timely manner, and advising management of implications of new tax regulations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the completion of tax reporting in a timely manner, to maintain compliance with applicable jurisdictions.
Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate the timing and inputs.
Manage all tax research-related matters, and identify potential tax problems and propose solutions.
Manage and review the reconciliation and analysis of tax-related general ledger accounts; and coordinate the posting of related general ledger journal entries and the document imaging of journal entry substantiation for retention.
Manage jurisdictional registration and reporting, as required.
Manage the preparation and update of tax provision schedules as well as the maintenance of sales and use tax tables in ERP system in accordance with jurisdiction rate changes in a timely manner.
Manage the investigation and correction of identified errors using root-cause analysis.
Manage the information gathering process to fulfill requests by auditors during quarterly reviews, taxation jurisdiction audits and fiscal year-end audits.
Act as a resource to management regarding tax accounting issues, reporting and analysis as requested by management.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, concentration and/or relevant work experience in tax accounting
5-10 years of relevant tax accounting experience in a workplace environment
Experience with managing a similar multi-jurisdictional tax function
Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for businesses.
Excellent knowledge of tax documentation requirements, quality control processes, and data analysis.
High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
Must possess good judgment and decision making abilities. Must be able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate decision.
