The Finance Division provides financial management, enterprise planning and stewardship in support of education, research, and strategic goals of Carnegie Mellon. Our mission is to provide university partners with the tools and resources needed to be well-informed leaders and effective decision makers. As part of the Controller's Office, International Finance provides financial and operational support for potential and university established international initiatives. We work closely with key partners to support CMU's mission and objectives while managing global compliance with the highest regard for international, federal, state and local laws and regulations.
We are seeking a Senior International Finance Accountant to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the Assistant Director, International Finance, you will be responsible for performing complex accounting activities in a multicurrency environment and in accordance with international accounting principles and standards to control the organization's financial resources and ensure that it aligns with all relevant regulations, laws and reporting requirements.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Perform complex accounting activities ensuring that the monthly close of international programs is accurate, identifying issues, and researching and resolving issues prior to close.
Lead work with the International interim and year-end audits - including preparation of audit schedules, samples, analysis, etc., as well as assistance with the organization of and submission of audit requests.
Prepare and review/analyze monthly journal entries to ensure that the general ledger is accurate and complete.
Preparation and/or review of monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting statements and reports, as well as preparation of quarterly metrics.
Perform necessary financial reporting and ensure compliance with all applicable domestic and international regulations, laws and reporting requirements.
Collect, compile, and verify financial information for management decision-making and audits. Take a leadership role in the monthly financial close processes.
Detailed review of the monthly reconciliations performed by the accounting staff and reconcile more complex accounts.
Mentor, coach, and validate the work of the accounting staff, and assist them in resolving problems.
Identify areas for improvement, develop plans, and assist in the implementation of process and policy changes for the audit program in an effort of continuous improvement.

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; MBA or other advanced degree in accounting, finance or business administration highly desired.
Minimum five years of accounting experience required; two years with a public accounting firm preferred and/or three years of experience in financial management/accounting in a not-for-profit organization or higher education highly desired.
CPA license highly desired.
Proven knowledge of international accounting standards, GAAP, and audit procedures preferred; working knowledge of Oracle accounting system highly desired.
