Under the supervision of the Associate Treasurer, the Accountant/Financial Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Universityâ™s treasury function and related activities. Key responsibilities in the role include liquidity analysis, debt and investment analysis and support, cash forecasting, and bank account administration.
The Accountant/Financial Analyst is responsible for accuracy and precision in analysis and reporting with cash forecasting, management, and operational reporting; data analysis; and communication with various stakeholders and customers.
Working in partnership with the department leadership and peers, the Accountant/Financial Analyst will develop reports and report templates for analysis and operational use. The Accountant/Financial Analyst ensures the use of analysis and reporting best practices across the Division of Finance and assists with the communications, training, and sharing of policies and procedures to support the Division.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
Provide financial expertise for multiple business units including operational performance reporting, forecasting, strategic analysis, budgeting, audit and compliance.Â Provide analyst support to create, review and maintain 12-month cash forecast in an accurate manner and meet scheduled reporting deadlines.Â Assist management team with strategic planning by providing data and analysis to support recommendations.Â Provides support to internal and external customers. Support Division of Finance and team in banking and financial related matters under the guidance of the Associate Treasurer.
Provide operational support for executing the daily debt management functions and operations such as facilitating debt service payments and reviewing bank account activity to ensure all transactions have been processed correctly and record retention requirements are maintained, in partnership with Associate Treasurer and Division of Finance stakeholders.Â Maintain and update internal debt databases as new transactions are executed and debt service payments are processed. Safeguard the information by performing regular system back-ups. Draft annual reports and coordinate with University office to ensure all obligations and compliance requirements are met or exceeded.
Provide support on debt analysis and financial modeling, which includes developing, maintaining and documenting analytical tools and financial models using Excel spreadsheets and other software platforms. Prepare financial analyses for internal Capital Financing projects and for projects requested by other University units; and conducting research on financial management techniques. Assist Associate Treasurer with preparations for the monthly and quarterly finance committee meetings; draft meeting minutes. Assist Associate Treasure with presentations, exhibits, and models for various stakeholders.
Maintain effective and well-documented information on current and future-state banking structures, including banking diagrams; ensure accurate maintenance of bank accounts and related services; provide end user support on all bank treasury systems and reporting tools. Prepare summaries/analyses of bank fees/charges to ensure proper billing and for negotiation purposes.Â Review for and identify cost saving opportunities and provide monthly review and analysis of bank fees associated with University accounts totaling $400K annually in partnership and direction of Associate Treasurer. Partner with peers and Associate Treasurer to identify and address areas of concern and proactively alert team on any variances with analyses.
Provide critical fiscal year-end support for the external audit, preparing confirmation letters, documenting covenant compliance, and producing complex financial reports. Ensure compliance requirements are met by updating and maintaining internal monitoring spreadsheet tools. Provide analytical support on credit analysis and financial modeling projects. These initiatives include developing, maintaining and documenting analytical tools and financial models using Excel spreadsheets, Access databases and other software platforms.
Provide financial expertise to Sr. Financial AnalystsÂ in the management of internal loan process and review of current software solution Â to ensure improvement to process. Create and maintain internal loan amortization schedules. Maintain financial cash flow models associated internal loans and bond proceeds. Forecast external funding needs used to determine the timing of external debt issuance.Â Create custom reports and presentations on the Universityâ™s debt portfolio for internal and external stakeholders.
Bachelorâ™s degree in Accounting/Finance and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Proficient in spreadsheets, databases, MS Office Suite and financial software applications. Hands on experience with statistical analysis and statistical packages preferred. Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills with strong client orientation. Proven knowledge of financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis preferred. Knowledge of Penn's systems preferred.
Must also have demonstrated capability to work on a team and assist colleagues in a collaborative and professional manner. Open and willing to changes and process improvement initiatives, demonstrated strong work ethic with a focus on accuracy and strong technical knowledge. Individual should have proven track record for acquiring knowledge on the job in an expeditious manner.
