Summary Position: Bank Street Education Center (the Ed Center), a division within Bank Street College of Education (the College) created to support the College’s work with school districts, is currently seeking a Senior Associate Vice President (Senior AVP) to lead the work of two teams, School Systems Partnerships & Programs (SSPP) and the Center on Culture, Race & Equity (CCRE). The Ed Center partners with school systems (districts, state education departments, charter management organizations, etc.) to foster instructional improvement efforts at scale through strategic and project planning guidance, professional learning design and implementation, leveraging or creating relevant tools and resources, and building capacity through the system to sustain these improvements. Partner engagements vary in scope and size, depending on the needs of the school system. Accordingly, the Senior AVP will support, guide, and lead the work of SSPP and CCRE to positively impact the quality of work in alignment to the Ed Center and the College.
Key relationships: The Senior AVP will report to the Vice President (VP) at the Ed Center and work closely with members of Ed Center Leaders, SSPP leaders, CCRE leaders, and broader team members.
Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Ed Center’s leadership team, the Senior AVP will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the organization are functioning at a high level, with particular focus on:
College-wide:
- Partnering with College leadership, specifically the President and Chief Equity Officer, and key leaders of divisions and committees
- Providing thought leadership and collaboration on the College’s Strategic Plan development and execution
- Engaging with members of the Board of Trustees to build awareness, bridges, and support for the Ed Center’s work
Divisional:
- Partnering with the VP, Associate Vice President (AVP), and other key divisional leaders to develop and attain ambitious goals for the Ed Center
- Strategic planning and projecting financial targets with the VP and fellow Ed Center Leaders
- Leading the development and implementation of the Ed Center’s equity improvement strategy across teams, and in sync with the larger College-wide strategy, to strengthen the Bank Street culture and community
- Leading, and partnering with divisional and College leadership, to develop potential business and client proposals aligned to the mission of the organization
- Refining and executing on the thought leadership, marketing, and fundraising approach--including foundation and grant work--connected to the larger Ed Center business and growth strategies as aligned to the College’s Strategic Plan
- Collaborating with the key partners within and outside the College to move the Ed Center’s agenda
- Establishing and maintaining internal systems that drive the Ed Center’s work
Teams:
- Supervising the functioning and health of all CCRE and SSPP partnerships, ensuring that the teams reach their goals and that projects are designed, staffed, resourced and implemented effectively such that evidence indicates consistent high-quality client experiences
- Modeling a learning stance as an Ed Center leader and facilitating the development and learning of the key leaders of CCRE (Executive Director) and SSPP project teams (Senior Directors and Directors as makes sense)
- Building strong team cultures that adhere to team and divisional core values
- Overseeing the business strategy development, project delivery, and management for both the CCRE and SSPP portfolios
- Leading a sub-portfolio of partnerships across CCRE and SSPP
- Collaborating with team and divisional leadership, including the Vice President and Divisional Support Team, to ensure all systems for operating SSPP and CCRE are clear and lead to sustainability:
- Staffing talent for teams and projects, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding
- Implementing an annual staff development system that engages employees in a reflective “360-like” feedback processes that includes peers, managers, supervisees, and other colleagues as makes sense
- Budgeting for project execution, efficiency, and hitting financial targets for the division and College
- Honing HR systems for tracking time and holding staff, including a group of consultants, accountable for their work and use of time
- Building structures and a culture for CCRE and SSPP to collaborate and share content and practices to increase cross-team learning, larger coherence, and generate new business opportunities for both teams
- Ensure team leaders are able to manage cross-content project teams (e.g., facilitators, analysts, project managers, etc.)
- Establishing professional learning and development structures for CCRE and SSPP project leads that align with Bank Street values and approaches, as well as supporting role-alike learning
- Leveraging outcome data around educator mindsets and practice as well as student-level impact to formulate high-quality recommendations for school system staff and the Ed Center more broadly, and contribute to a stronger marketing approach
- Building team capacities to design and implement impactful projects in partner school systems
- Developing and maintaining district and foundation relationships to sustain/grow contract and grant funding
Qualifications
Skills & Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to lead the implementation of an organizational change strategy; ability to design systems or processes to solve a problem
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team and with personnel at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
- Highly developed ability to effectively facilitate workshops, group discussions, and other modalities of professional learning in alignment with principles of adult learning
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both virtual and in-person settings
- Problem resolution and organizational skills including ability to multitask, navigate ambiguity, and set priorities for oneself and the team in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to design and manage complex and multiple projects to improve instructional practices at scale;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; familiarity with quantitative and qualitative analytic strategies and programs
- Advanced skills using Google suite and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Master's Degree or other advanced degree in education preferred
- Multilingual preferred
Experiences
- At least eight years of professional experience working in school systems in the areas of curriculum, instruction, professional development, and/or assessment
- At least eight years of experience in the field of PK-12 education, two plus years of experience in nonprofit management or other relevant management experience
- Strong team leadership experience (directly supervised at least five team members), with proven ability to build capacity in others
- Strong understanding of the current educational and political ecology in which school systems function
- Experience facilitating and developing facilitators around racial literacy, anti-bias, and PK-12 content areas
- Background in culturally responsive education and pedagogical practices
- Experience planning and managing complex projects towards results
- Experience in institutions of higher education or other organizations focused on adult learning
