Carnegie Mellon's Finance Division is seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Manager. In this role, you will supervise and lead the accounts payable team working cross functionally with other departments to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely invoice processing. You will work closely with Procurement to ensure strategic opportunities to inform, assess, and execute the procure-to-pay process. This role has a strong process and system focus and will require strong analytical and problem solving skills.
This position provides subject matter expertise and leadership for a team of AP professionals. In addition to being recognized as a thought leader on campus, this position requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of implementing projects and providing innovative ideas that lead to industry best practices.
The senior manager is responsible for providing Accounts Payable management support during various process improvements and system upgrades in addition to day to day operations of the accounts payable team including but not limited to activities such as month end/annual close, development, monitoring and enhancements against performance metrics, ensure compliance and managing the performance of team members. This individual is responsible for managing workflow, special projects, campus communications and training. This role will work in close partnership/have shared responsibility with Procurement in supplier management.
Core responsibilities include:
- Providing day-to-day supervision of Accounts Payable representatives including daily review of invoice processing, and aspects of supplier management, completeness and conformance to university policies and procedures, providing guidance on AP staffing/needs, and training new hires, as necessary
- Creating and implementing innovative process improvements to meet operational needs, as well as accuracy and efficiency of the Accounts Payable department
- Accurately perform monthly/yearly close procedures and associated daily processes
- Formulating and recommending changes to university policies and/or procedures to maintain integrity and efficiency of the overall Accounts Payable model
- Will be responsible for special projects, including coordination with Computing Services on new technology opportunities or existing technology enhancements. Will have oversight of the accounts payable related department technology systems
- Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations governing payment to vendors (e.g., 1099 laws, escheatment) and overseeing maintenance of record retention
- Performing monthly review of the Trial Balance and associated reconciliations, as well as bi-weekly review of AP holds report and other related reports
- Act as a liaison with campus and frequently offer training/information sessions with campus partners; providing weekly/monthly metrics regarding invoice processing
- Manage audit requests and provide project guidance/leadership over implementation of strategic initiatives and other projects/tasks as needed

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree; Masters degree preferred.
- Years of experience: At least ten years Accounts Payable experience. Experience leading a team of professionals.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

- Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence 2 days a week.
